General Preparation

It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions before any gastroenterological procedures. Most endoscopy procedures involve conscious sedation. For this reason, it is critical that there is no food in your stomach in order to minimize aspiration risk, which occurs when the contents of your stomach are vomited into your lungs. This can cause pneumonia. Be sure to carefully observe your doctor’s instructions about dietary restrictions, as well as medication restrictions. If your doctor gives you nay type of prep to drink before your procedure, be sure to follow instructions carefully.
