Conditions We Treat

Our team at Washington Health Medical Group provides psychiatry and behavioral sciences for patients with a broad range of disorders and conditions, such as:

• Adjustment disorders – This term describes symptoms, both emotional and physical, that typically result from a major life change or stressful event. Adjustment disorders are also known as stress response symptoms, and are typically triggered by a specific instance of stress or trauma.
• Anxiety – This includes diagnosis and treatment services for social anxiety disorders, generalized anxiety, and panic disorders.
• Depression during the perinatal or postpartum periods
• Depression in older patients / stage of life issues
• Grief and bereavement
• Mood disorders – Mood disorders are psychological conditions in which the patient experiences significant changes in behavior / emotion marked by raising or lowering of their mood. Examples include depression and bipolar disorders.
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – OCD is a condition marked by repetitive actions or “compulsions” caused by excessive / obsessive thoughts. OCD is often manifested in ways such as extreme fear of germs or a need to have certain items specifically placed or arranged in a certain way.
• Personality disorders – Personality disorders include borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorder. These conditions display in specific patterns of behavior that may develop over time and that are marked by a lack of flexibility and ability to cope with daily issues.
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – This condition manifests in individuals who have experienced traumatic events including war, assault, crime, violence, or other forms of physical and / or emotional trauma. Some PTSD symptoms include nightmares, flashbacks, sensitivity to certain stimuli, depression, and anxiety.
• Psychotic illnesses – Psychotic illnesses are significant mental disorders characterized by irregular thinking, wrong perceptions, and a loss of touch with reality. Some examples of psychosis include schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders.

We accept patients for the treatment of psychiatric and behavioral conditions who are 18 years of age and older. Dr. Sehgal does not treat children under the age of 18, substance abuse disorders, pain management, sexual dysfunction and gender identity, Primary ADHD, or developmental disorders.
