Families throughout the Tri-City community are invited to attend the ‘Washington Health Road to Wellness Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care,” a free event hosted by Washington Health on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington West Parking Lot, 2500 Mowry Ave. in Fremont. The fair offers a fun-filled day of health and safety education, family activities, live entertainment, and free health screenings designed for all ages.
The Road to Wellness event offers a unique opportunity for the community to meet clinicians, health partners, and first responders and learn about the health, wellness, and safety resources available to them — all while enjoying a variety of entertainment and fun activities. There will be more than 30 educational booths offering the latest information about keeping yourself and your family healthy and safe.
“As a community hospital and trauma center, we're dedicated to serving our district residents and the Washington Health Road to Wellness Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care is just one of the ways we connect with our community to share important information about how to stay safe and thrive,” said Kayla Gupta, Washington Health Community Outreach Manager. “We are pleased to help local families connect with the people who make up their regional Trauma Center as well as its nonprofit partners.”
Free Health Education and Services
In celebration of the two-year anniversary of the opening of Washington Health’s Level II Trauma Center, visitors can explore educational booths featuring bike safety, Stop the Bleed training, and choking first aid demonstrations that teach lifesaving skills. Since its opening in July 2024, the Washington Health Trauma Center has served more than 5,000 patients who have suffered injuries from falls; automobile crashes; and other accidents like motorcycle, bike, skateboard and scooter incidents.
The purpose of a trauma center entails much more than treating trauma patients – it is dedicated to educating the community on severe injury and disease prevention. Trauma Medical Director and surgeon Chet Morrison, MD, Trauma Center Director Jennifer Kubisz, BSN, RN, and Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator Garrett Cordes will be there to advise residents about free safety and injury prevention classes. Other specialized physicians will also be on hand, including pediatrician Shilpa Sulochana, MD, and plastic surgeon Prasad Kilaru, MD. Complimentary glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure screenings will be available for adults. Children will be offered pediatric dental screenings provided by Union City dentist Dr. Michael Suh.

Part of Washington Health’s mission is to consistently engage with the community, providing education on health, wellness and injury prevention. Every three years, the hospital conducts a comprehensive health needs assessment study to identify critical health issues in the Tri-City Area. The data is used to tailor the health system’s services and education programs to meet local needs and help improve the health of the community.
