Mark Xu, MD

Dr. Mark Xu is an orthopaedic surgeon with specialized training in orthopaedic trauma and spine surgery. His clinical interests include treating traumatic injuries of the arms, legs, and pelvis, as well as spinal conditions caused by injury or wear and tear.

Dr. Xu takes a comprehensive approach to each patient’s care and works with patients to decide whether nonsurgical or surgical treatment is the best option. He believes in shared decision-making and developing treatment plans that align with each patient’s needs and goals.

Dr. Xu completed medical school and his orthopaedic surgery residency in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He went on to complete an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the University of British Columbia/Vancouver General Hospital and a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto/Toronto Western Hospital.

His research focuses on patient outcomes and studies comparing different techniques for stabilizing fractures and other injuries. He has received several research grants, including an AO Trauma North America Fellow Research Grant.

Dr. Xu is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and board-eligible with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He sees patients at Washington Health and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
