Kevin Mitchell, MD

Dr. Kevin J. Mitchell is the Trauma Associate Medical Director at Washington Health in Fremont. He joined Washington Health shortly before the Level II Trauma Center opened on July 1, 2024.

Dr. Mitchell attended Howard University’s six-year combined Bachelor of Science and medical degree program, where he earned his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude before completing his medical degree. He completed his internship and residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, served as Chief Resident in general surgery at Howard University Hospital, and completed a fellowship in trauma and critical care at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Services Systems in Baltimore.

Before joining Washington Health, Dr. Mitchell served as Director of Trauma Services and Co-director of Emergency Medical Services at SSM DePaul Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he cared for patients requiring emergency surgery, critical care, and trauma treatment.

Dr. Mitchell has also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and site director for medical student surgery training. He has co-authored numerous articles on surgery and trauma care and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
