Amir Matityahu, MD

Dr. Amir Matityahu was born in Israel and moved to Palo Alto, California, in 1978. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UCLA in 1992 and his medical degree from Hahnemann University Medical School in Philadelphia in 1997. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at the Adams R. Cowley Shock Trauma Center in 2002.

In 2003, Dr. Matityahu joined the UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital medical staff. He currently serves as Director of Pelvis and Acetabular Trauma Reconstruction at San Francisco General Hospital and is a Professor in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedics.

His clinical interests include complex fractures around the joints, fractures of the pelvis and hip socket, and caring for patients with multiple traumatic injuries. His research focuses on how fractures heal and are stabilized, as well as injuries and long-term problems affecting the hip joint after trauma.

Dr. Matityahu works to develop innovative, minimally invasive surgical techniques designed to support healing and help patients return to their daily activities, work, and sports as safely and quickly as possible. He values compassion, quality, integrity, teamwork, research, and education, and believes in helping both patients and fellow physicians understand their treatment and care.
