Bernard Stewart, DDS, has been a member of the Washington Township Health Care District Board of Directors since 2002. A retired dentist, Dr. Stewart founded the Fremont Smiles dental practice and provided care for more than 40 years.

A Hayward native, Dr. Stewart is proud of the many advancements Washington Health has made in meeting community health needs during his tenure, including the opening of the UCSF- Washington Cancer Center. As both a medical provider and businessman, Dr. Stewart understands the challenges of providing care while balancing the budget in a time when hospitals are merging and being acquired. He is dedicated to keeping Washington Health fiscally sound, independent, and community owned.

He also has served on the board of directors for Celebrate Fremont and has held leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
