PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

About Our Program

Established in 2012, the PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at Washington Health is designed to cultivate competent clinical pharmacists equipped to deliver exceptional patient care across multiple acute care disciplines. The program provides high-quality, clinical experiences to foster well-rounded pharmacists. Through an intensive yearlong training, residents will:

  • Develop expertise, knowledge, and skills to manage a broad range of disease states.
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary health care team by offering patient-specific therapeutic interventions to optimize drug therapy outcomes.
  • Enhance skills in conducting clinical research, medication use evaluations and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strengthen communication skills by presenting formal and informal lectures, and leading interdisciplinary discussions.

Core rotations include Operational Training, Pharmacy Informatics, Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease, Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine. Elective opportunities include Oncology I, Oncology II, Cardiology, and Critical Care II. The program is highly flexible and open to tailoring elective rotations based on resident interests, allowing for the creation of new opportunities that align with individual career goals. The program also provides opportunities for teaching and leadership development with an optional teaching certificate that can be obtained through Touro College of Pharmacy. Located in the Bay Area, Washington Health offers a dynamic and supportive environment for professional growth in pharmacy practice.
