FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 18, 2025 – Washington Health recently received reaccreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) and the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). These distinctions recognize the health system’s continued commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive cancer care.
“Receiving reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers at the same time, validates the dedication and expertise of our entire cancer care team and all who support the program,” said Kimberly Hartz, chief executive officer of Washington Health. “Most importantly, these distinctions reinforce our goal to bring advanced treatment and provide world-class care close to home.”
Reaccreditation from American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
ACS CoC accreditation is granted to institutions committed to providing high-quality cancer care by demonstrating compliance with CoC standards. Each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with the CoC standards. To maintain accreditation, cancer programs must undergo a site visit every three years. The CoC accreditation standards supply the structure for providing all patients with a full range of diagnosis, treatment, and supportive services either on-site or by referral, including community-based resources. Local cancer services include access to the latest cancer research, advanced technology, and leading treatment options in a comfortable and convenient setting.
The cancer center serves 500 patients each month, an increase tenfold, and 96% of patients report satisfaction with their care and services. The program has also received the Commission on Cancer’s prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award, expanding comprehensive, cutting-edge treatment options for residents of Southern Alameda County. Washington Health is additionally recognized as a Magnet organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a distinction earned by only 7% of hospitals nationwide.
Reaccreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
Programs accredited by the NAPBC follow a model for organizing and managing a breast center to facilitate multidisciplinary, integrated, and comprehensive breast cancer services. The NAPBC focuses on the spectrum of a patient’s journey with breast cancer or breast disease, including prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship. By setting high standards, NAPBC accreditation guides breast centers in providing comprehensive breast care based on scientific evidence.
Washington Health has a designated Women’s Center that combines advanced diagnostic services and an expert clinical staff with a host of wellness and support programs for women. The Washington Women’s Center serves as the hub for comprehensive breast imaging, diagnostic evaluation, and coordinated patient support.
American College of Surgeons Surgical Quality Partner
CoC and NAPBC accreditations include designation as ACS Surgical Quality Partner, and signify Washington Health’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step. The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know Washington Health is dedicated to quality and relentless self-improvement, and has been verified or accredited by the ACS.
